Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is an age-old, gentle practice. Alternating warm and cool applications can encourage healthy circulation.

  • Place your dog in the tub with a hand sprayer.
  • Start with comfortable warm water on the heart area.
  • After about a minute, increase to the hottest setting you can handle without burning yourself or your dog.
  • Hold for one full minute.

Turn the hot water completely off and spray the cold water for another full minute.

Continue alternating between warm and cold for a total of 10–15 minutes. End on warm to relax, or cold to invigorate. You’ll notice your dog may yawn or even start to doze off on warm, and perk right up on cold.

Allow your dog to rest comfortably after the session.

Frequency: At least once daily, ideally twice. Can be repeated multiple times per day.

Alternative: Gel Pack Method: If the tub isn’t practical, use two gel packs — one warmed in the microwave, one cooled in the fridge or freezer. Follow the same alternating routine for 10–15 minutes.
